Details of Mauritian Firm That Acquired 76-Yr-Old Kenyan Company

International-based companies are eyeing opportunities to get new deals in the country going by their expansion strategies.

Recently, reports indicated of Mauritian conglomerate Rogers Group acquired Rongai Workshop & Transport Limited through one of its subsidiaries Velogic Logistics.

A statement was later released by Rogers indicating that the move to acquire the Rongai truck company was aimed at strengthening Velogic Logistics' presence in the Kenyan market.

Touted as the second-largest road transport company in terms of regional destinations, the Kenyan company has been in operation since 1947.

“Synergies with Rongai will allow Velogic to offer a greater range of logistics services, as well as expand its customer base and transport network in this region of the African continent,” the statement read in part.

With the acquisition of Rongai Works and Transport Limited, Velogic Logistics joins giants in the trucking firm industry such as DHL, Siginon Group, and Acceler Global among others.

Founded in 1899, the multinational, Rogers Group, deals with expertise in five key sectors: Finance & Technology, Hospitality & Travel, Logistics, Malls, and Real Estate & Agribusiness.

Despite its birth in Mauritius, Rogers Group has extended beyond the country with offices in over 14 countries.

Velogic, on the other hand, has amassed over 50 years in the logistics business and consists of 38 offices spread across major cities in France, India, Madagascar, Reunion Island, Kenya and Mauritius.

Rongai Workshop & Transport Limited

Regarded as a major transport hub, multinationals are capitalising on Kenya's import and export links from the Port of Mombasa to other regional markets including Kampala, Goma, Bujumbura, Kigali and Juba.

Rongai Workshop company is based in Rongai, Nakuru county and consists of a fleet size of over 100 prime movers with 117 trailers with load capacities of up to 30 tonnes.

The company has two depots in Syokimau, Nairobi and Port Reitz in Mombasa County.

The truck company is hailed for delivery of cargo within Kenya and its neighbouring countries primarily Uganda.
