
1 Uber (www.uber.com) today announced the launch of multiple new products and features that will be available this month in South Africa, Ghana, Kenya, Ivory Coast and Nigeria.
2 The launch, which took place simultaneously in multiple locations across Sub-Saharan Africa (SSA), also showcased audio recording, the latest addition to its suite of security features.
3 Speaking at the event, Uber SSA General Manager Kagiso Khaole said the brand is excited to expand to eight more cities during September in Kenya, Nigeria and Ghana.
4 “As we prepare to commemorate our 10th anniversary next year, we are excited to move to more cities to enable people to go anywhere and get anything.
5 Our commitment to raising the bar on safety remains relentless and we continue to work hard to grow the more than 3 million earning opportunities we’ve created so far.”
6 Eight new cities and Uber will now be operational in Owerri and Akure in Nigeria; Eldoret, Kisumu, Nakuru and Naivasha in Kenya; and Tamale and Sunyani in Ghana.
7 These expansions are a testament to Uber’s commitment to the region and signal more opportunities for more drivers to earn, while passengers have convenient and reliable ride options at the touch of a button.
8 In these expansions, Uber brings a diverse mix of products that can better meet the needs of city residents.
9 Cheaper options for riders To help lower costs for riders and increase demand for drivers, Uber is launching UberX Share in Ghana and Nigeria, and Uber ChapChap Share in Kenya.
10 Uber’s rideshare offer allows riders to save up to 30% off the ride fare when paired with a rider heading in the same direction, and when a match isn’t possible, they can still save 5% off your trip.
11 “The introduction of UberX Share allows us to proudly demonstrate the power of our platform, understanding the ability to match riders’ destinations while providing convenience and affordability.
12 We are a global company that builds locally; and in Ghana, we take advantage of the local culture of carpooling when on the go, which makes this product ideal for the market,” says Khaole.
13 Getting around town with a full crew has never been easier, with the launch of UberXL in Nairobi, Kenya.
14 This option provides seating for up to six people, which is excellent for business travel and airports where additional luggage space may be required.
15 In South Africa, riders can now book their group ride 30 days in advance with UberXL Reserve and Uber Van Reserve.
16 Uber Comfort, which is currently available in South Africa and Ivory Coast, will now be available in Ghana.
17 This bespoke offering is designed for cyclists looking to upgrade their daily commute with added comfort.
18 Uber Comfort drivers are known to provide excellent service, while displaying kindness, courtesy, and professionalism.
19 Uber Connect, one of the app’s most popular products available in South Africa, Kenya, Nigeria, Tanzania, Uganda and Ghana; It will soon be available in two additional cities in Nigeria.
20 Uber Connect is an on-demand delivery solution that allows users to quickly send and receive packages.
21 The feature comes integrated with a PIN verification that gives users the peace of mind that their package is being delivered to the right person.
22 Taking a Pro-Security Stand “Security is at the core of how we do business, and we’re proud to announce three new security features to help improve the user experience,” says Khaole.
23 Audio recording pilot in South Africa: Uber will now allow riders and drivers to use the app to record and share audio of their ride as evidence in the event of a safety incident, something drivers have been asking for based on your feedback of the round table sessions.

25 This new optional audio recording feature, which is being tested in Pretoria and Johannesburg, has been successful in regions of the US and Latin America where Uber has a presence.
26 In-App Emergency Service in Nigeria: Uber is working with Sety in Nigeria to provide on-demand safety and medical response for passengers and drivers during a ride.
27 This collaboration will also provide access to a private security response unit closer to your location, using a connected device.
28 SSA Security Check – This feature encourages riders to complete their security profile by activating and using available features such as Trusted Contacts, PIN Verification, and RideCheck.
29 It is available in all countries within the SSA where Uber operates.
30 Delivery Innovations At launch, Uber Eats reinforced its aspiration to build an app of the future by creating a virtual mall experience that goes beyond food.
