Uganda's COVID-19 cases surge to 5,123 as 145 new cases confirmed

KAMPALA, Sept. 15 (Xinhua) — Uganda's Ministry of Health on Tuesday announced the east African country has registered 145 new cases of COVID-19, bringing the total number of infections to 5,123.
The ministry in a statement issued here said that out of 2,003 samples tested over the past 24 hours, 103 contacts, 25 alerts and 17 returnees from abroad turned positive for the novel coronavirus.
According to the ministry, no foreign cargo truck drivers tested positive for COVID-19 at Uganda's common border point of entry.
So far, Uganda has recorded a total of 2,333 recoveries and 58 deaths since the index case was reported on March 21, according to the ministry.
