The Governments of Zambia and Tanzania have agreed to ask China to recapitalize the Tanzania Zambia Railway Authority – TAZARA.
Foreign Affairs Minister Joe Malanji says the rail line is old hence the need to be upgraded.
Mr. Malanji says once this is done, the bulk Cargo will be moved to the rail line.
He said this when Chinese Assistant Minister of foreign Affairs Chen Xiaodong paid a courtesy call on him.
Meanwhile Mr. Malanji has assured Mr. Xiaodong of Zambia’s support of the One China Policy which recognizes the mainland as the sole legitimate government of China.
He expressed hope that China will find a solution to its domestic affairs in Hong Kong.
Mr. Malanji said the country is also grateful to China for supporting Africa’s position on the need to reform the United Nations Security Council.
In response Mr. Chen said Zambia is a top priority to his country when it comes to the implementation of various developmental projects.
Mr. Chen said the violence happening in Hong Kong is an internal affair which will be resolved amicably.
